FOLDA: Seeds of Resistance and Solidarity

SpiderWebShow’s Festival of Live Digital Art (FOLDA) is back, June 4-7th in Kingston, ON. Radical performances both in-person and online will inspire you to look at art in new ways. Featuring a live concept album, a performance where story, video games, and A.I. collide, performances from Kingston’s local Deaf Spirit Theatre, a radical rethinking of the Start Up Industry Series that will ask the question: how do we create Art for Better Times, and MORE. FOLDA will inspire you to think: what is possible? What is next?

FOLDA 2025 artists include:

Marcel Stewart with Windrush
Kick off FOLDA 8  with a live concept album performance using immersive sound, storytelling, and visual design. WindRush brings to life Caribbean histories that are often overlooked or forgotten in Canada.

Cole Lewis, Patrick Blenkarn and Sam Ferguson with 2021
Story, video games, and A.I. collide in 2021 - blurring the boundaries between memory and simulation.

PeerLess Productions with Reflections and Refractions
A performance using lights, soundscapes, dance, music and video to explore how creative work is often refracted and made to fit into ableist preconceptions.

Iman Datoo with Kinnomics
Iman Datoo’s solo exhibition combines digital claymation, sound installation and augmented reality. An intriguing narrative takes root between the potato and its local cousins. Co-presented by The Agnes Etherington Art Centre.

Deaf Spirit Theatre with The MaryRobin Show
Created by Deaf artists Elizabeth Morris and Hayley Hudson, The MaryRobin Show is a play on the classic variety show: comedy, ABC storytelling, visual vernacular, monologues, and more!
 

Trophy with Remixed
Lounging within a garden-inspired environment , participants interact with a custom web app on their personal mobile devices. Their responses to a series of playful questions reveal their relationship to change, resulting in a personalized playlist of stories.

The StartUp: Art for a Better Time
This year, instead of demonstrations and workshops with emerging technologies, we are pulling together people from across the country to discuss Art for Better Times. The threat from America, concurrent with decimation of arts organizations, universities, and other safe harbours for independent thought in the US, have fundamentally shifted the core questions facing the arts and humanities in Canada. Over the course of FOLDA we will discuss from national, bilateral, international, and technological perspectives, and hopefully emerge with some new action and approach.
