Soprano, String Quartet, and Inuit Throat Singing

Musique en direct

Inuk soprano Deantha Edmunds, recently appointed a member of the Order of Canada, shares original selections from her award-winning Indigenous classical album, “Connections.”

Performing alongside one of Canada's finest chamber music ensembles, the New Orford String Quartet, Deantha will sing sacred selections in Inuktitut from her album, “Pillorikput Inuit: Inuktitut Arias for All Seasons,” as they were sung in Nunatsiavut 200 years ago.

Accompanying her are renowned throat singers, Sylvia Cloutier and Nancy Mike. They will raise their voices in this ancient tradition, weaving in and out of Deantha’s original music. Nancy Mike rose to international fame recently for her throat singing in the True Detective Series, “North Country,” starring Jodie Foster.
